The number of tourists who visited the Maldives between the beginning of 2021 and the 15th of September exceeded 817,000, the tourism ministry has revealed.

The country’s tourist arrival total of 817,387 as of Wednesday is a 106.1 percent growth over the amount reported previous year, but a 31.4 percent decrease from the nearly one million arrivals recorded in the same period last year.
Statistics show that 61,421 visitors came to the Maldives from September 1 to September 15. Due to border closures from March 27 to July 15, last year, there were only 4,458 arrivals in the same period.
The Maldives is getting closer to its 1.3 million visitor arrivals target for 2021, with daily arrivals maintaining at an average of 4,000 this month. Tourists spend an average of eight days in the Maldives, according to data.
India has once again led the source market for the Maldives tourism sector, accounting for 184,236 arrivals as of Wednesday, which is 22.5 percent of total arrivals. Russia now ranks second, accounting for 20.2 percent of all arrivals with 165,452 visitors.
