In response to the temporary ban on onion exports from India, Maldives Economic Minister Mohammed Saeed affirmed that the nation will consistently be given priority by its trade partners. The statement was made in light of the recent disruption caused by the halt in onion exports from India, a significant supplier of onions to the Maldives.
Minister Saeed, addressing the matter in a post on social media platform X, reassured the public that there are no obstacles to importing essential goods into Maldives. He acknowledged that changes in the global food market and export policies of individual countries occur at various times, affecting the availability of certain goods.
Highlighting the broader context, Minister Saeed emphasized that President Mohammed Muizzu’s top policy priority has consistently been to establish food security for the people. This commitment, dating back to the President’s campaign days, aims to achieve food security through sustainable environmental solutions. The government remains dedicated to addressing challenges in the food supply chain and ensuring a resilient and secure environment for its citizens.
