Health Minister Ahmed Naseem has said that Maldives is set to receive 700,000 doses COVID-19 vaccine procured from AstraZeneca Singapore by June.
The Health Minister made the comment in response to news reports claiming that Maldives is depleting its vaccine supply.
Minister Naseem also mentioned that plans are in the works to obtain the required doses of Pfizer vaccine to inoculate the 12,000 people aged 16 to 18. He added that the aim is to vaccinate 80 percent of the population with two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Covid-19 vaccination campaign began in the first week of February with the aim of immunising all eligible citizens of the country. The international community has praised the country for supporting vaccine equality by ensuring free and fair access to vaccines to migrants regardless of their legal status.
Since the start of the program, 296,961 people have received the first dose, while 102,589 people have received the second dose.
