Mohamed Aslam, Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure, has stated that the Maldives would conduct a population census in September 2022.
National Census 2022, which will take place from September 17 to September 30, was inaugurated at an event hosted at the Maldives Bureau of Statistics.
At the event, a video message from Minister Aslam was shown, in which he emphasized that the consensus offers critical information for national development goals.
The tagline for Census 2022 is ‘Count Me In,’ and it will include a census of those working in the economic sector, in contrast to previous censuses.
Speaking during the ceremony, Fathimath Riyaza, Head of Population and Social Statistics, stated that about 4,300 enumerators will be needed for the consensus procedures, which includes 2,100 from the Greater Male’ area and 2,200 from the atolls.
She also stated that on National Statistics Day, an announcement about the recruitment of enumerators for Census 2022 will be issued.
The Maldives last conducted a countrywide population census in 2014, which revealed that the country had a total population of 402,071 people.
