The Maldives will receive an extra 100,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX facility in December, the Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) said today.
In a tweet on Saturday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih indicated that the Maldives will begin administering booster doses to frontline workers in the healthcare, tourism, and airport industries next week, and that the booster shot will be available to all people by mid-December.
HEOC spokesperson Dr Fathimath Nazla stated today at a news conference that there are enough vaccine doses available to administer booster doses to all eligible persons in the country.
She also stated that an additional 100,000 doses will be received next month to provide booster doses to a greater number of people.
The Maldives began providing the booster dose on October 3, with almost 9,000 individuals already receiving the booster shot.
