The Ministry of Tourism has announced that it is set to review the decision to temporarily suspend tourist visa issuance to South Asian countries and likely resume issuing tourist visas in June.
Maldives temporarily halted issuing tourist visas to South Asian countries earlier this month due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the region. Especially, neighbouring India struggling with a more lethal variant of the virus that has crippled its health care system.
The HPA announced that tourist visas will be temporarily halted for visitors from South Asian Countries from 13th May onwards.
In addition, all inbound travelers, including those who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, must present a negative PCR test result obtained within the previous 96 hours.
India was the top source market for the Maldives last year, however it has since been taken over by Russia after the suspension of visa and more restrictions for inbound travelers from India.
