Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed over 94% of tourist beds in the Maldives are currently in operation since the reopening of borders in July last year.
Tourism Minister Mausoom said several progress has been made by the tourism industry since the reopening of borders. He added over 94% of tourist beds are in operation and the majority of employees who lost their employment due to the pandemic have been reinstated.
The planned opening of new resorts this year would create an additional 9,000 jobs in the tourism sector. He further added the reopening of the two main resorts in Addu would also reinstate the jobs of many people in that region.
He stated that more opportunities will be open for locals and investment opportunities have been redesigned to allow locals to collaborate with foreign investors.
