In a powerful display of solidarity with the besieged Palestinian people, Maldivians organized a second major rally in the capital, Male’ City, on Friday night, since the escalation of violence in Gaza.
The rally, held at Rasfannu area, brought together hundreds of participants from all age groups. The crowd marched from Rasfannu along Majeedhee Magu and concluded the rally at Henveiru Stadium. During the event, demonstrators voiced their demand to ban Israeli tourists from traveling to the Maldives.
In addition to this, the participants called for the liberation of Palestinians, an immediate end to the inhumane attacks on Palestinian territories, and the lifting of the blockade at the Rafah border to allow vital humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinian people.
The rally also featured a special prayer, or dua, for the victory of Palestinians in their struggle for justice and freedom.
This gathering was the second of its kind in as many weeks, underscoring the unwavering support and concern of Maldivians for the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
In a remarkable effort to contribute to the Palestinian cause, local media outlets, in collaboration with the International Aid Campaign (IAC), organized a telethon that raised over MVR 15 million. Furthermore, Maldivians have collectively donated USD 100,000, which has been distributed to Palestinian families. Each of the 200 families received USD 500 in cash to assist them during this difficult time.
