Maldivian, the national carrier, has announced that flights between the Maldives and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will be suspended until July 15.
Maldivian cancelled its flights to Dhaka on May 4, with the flights set to restart on July 1. However, according to an announcement made by the national airline, the flights would remain suspended until July 15.
Maldivian halted its Dhaka route in response to the Bangladeshi government’s decision to ban all passenger flights between the Maldives and Bangladesh due to a significant increase in COVID-19 cases.
Bangladesh imposed a stringent nationwide lockdown on Monday to combat the deadly spike of COVID-19 cases, which has been propelled by the extremely contagious Delta variant. On Sunday, Bangladesh reported 119 deaths, its highest-ever daily death toll.
