Maldivian, the national airline, has successfully completed a test flight to Madivaru, Lhaviyani Atoll’s newly created airport.
The test flight, which included top officials from the transport ministry and state-owned companies, arrived at the airport at 10:00 on Saturday morning.
Kuredu Holdings Pvt developed Madivaru’s domestic airport, which was contracted to China’s Beijing Urban Construction Group for construction works.
The project contract, which included the development of a 1,200-meter runway, an apron, a fire station, and a contemporary passenger terminal, was signed on May 29, 2018.
It is the first airport to be built in Lhaviyani Atoll, and regular flight operations are set to commence next year.
