The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has denied permission for the newly elected Malé City Council President and councillors, as well as the new Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Malé members, to be inaugurated at Sultan Park tomorrow morning.
This follows public outrage in response to the decision to hold the ceremony in Sultan Park, citing a significant increase in new COVID-19 cases in capital Malé.
Shathufa Shafeeu, Media Officer for Malé City Council, stated that the HPA had denied permission to hold the ceremony at Sultan Park. She also stated that the ceremony would take place virtually.
The City Council announced that the ceremony would take place tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will be streamed live on TVM and the City Council’s Facebook page.
