The Male’ City Council has decided to lobby concerned authorities following the alleged unlawful reassignment of the Ameenee Magu development project.
The Male’ City Council has today decided to lobby and lodge formal complaints with concerned authorities, following the government’s alleged unlawful reassignment of the project to develop the roads of the capital city from the Male’ City Council to the Planning Ministry. The Male’ City Council has also decided to file a legal suit against the government.
According to the statement released by the Male’ City Council today, members of the city council have also decided to lobby the President’s Office, the People’s Majlis (Parliament) and the Local Government Authority, at this morning’s 59th sitting of the city council. Moreover, the letter to the President’s Office will detail the case, including the matters of legal concern and it will be requesting an audience with members of the Decentralisation Standing Committee of Parliament, as per the statement.
A case is also set to be lodged with the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the assignment of the project to Road Development Corporation (RDC) at MVR 84 million, whereas the same scope was allegedly agreed at MVR 39 million with RDC and Male’ City Council. However, Managing Director of RDC, Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey) denied any signed agreements with the city council on developing Ameenee Magu. He noted the project is totally different from the Male’ Streetscaping Project signed with the city council, which involves refurbishing the streets of Male’ in 13 different zones.
