The leading Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has unveiled comprehensive solutions aimed at addressing youth-related concerns in its official manifesto.
Unveiled during a vibrant campaign event in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll, the manifesto’s dedicated section on youth-related matters encompasses a range of crucial topics such as health, sports, and recreation.
Within its framework, the manifesto outlines a series of initiatives designed to alleviate the housing affordability crisis by constructing budget-friendly co-living spaces and studio units, effectively lightening the financial load of exorbitant rent payments. Additionally, the party pledges to cap interest rates at a maximum of 6% for residential loans and introduce council housing to support economically disadvantaged individuals.
A significant focus of the manifesto centers around the empowerment of the younger generation, with an emphasis on cultivating a proficient and technologically savvy cohort. Key strategies include the establishment of youth innovation laboratories and entrepreneurship incubators strategically situated across the nation. Furthermore, plans are in place to expand the existing loan program for artists, fostering creativity and innovation.
In the realm of healthcare, the manifesto adopts a preventative approach under the umbrella of primary healthcare models. It also envisions the enhancement of sports facilities in various regions, with the overarching goal of enhancing the well-being of the youth.
For sports enthusiasts, the manifesto introduces ambitious plans to construct national indoor futsal arenas, setting the stage for hosting international tournaments and establishing a platform for national futsal leagues. Notably, the proposal extends to the creation of racing tracks, with Thilafushi and other locations slated to house these high-octane facilities.
