Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Maldives National Party (MNP) have submitted candidacies for the vacant seat of Villimale’ constituency Women’s Development Committee (WDC) while the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) missed out as they failed to submit candidacy before the deadline.
Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) revealed the deadline for submitting candidacy for the vacant WDC seat of Male’ City expired at 1200hrs on April 14. ECM announced two candidates had applied to contest in the by-election. The two candidates contesting in the by-election are Fathimath Nazima from PPM and Aminath Sheeza from MNP.
The seat representing the Villimale’ constituency at the Male’ City WDC was vacated following the passing of Aminath Eman in February. The late Aminath Eman had represented Villimale’ at the Male’ City WDC as a member of the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). However, no candidate from MDP applied to contest in the by-election.
