A bill to criminalize activities such as the opposition’s ‘India Out’ campaign that damage foreign diplomatic relations is set to be drafted by MDP.
MDP’s Parliamentary Group Leader Ali Azim said that discussions are underway to draft a bill to the Parliament to allow criminal punishment against actions that damage diplomatic relations, though it is unclear whether the bill will be submitted to the Parliament.
However, Azim also said that it is not specifically aimed to end opposition’s ‘India Out’ campaign which calls for removal of Indian military stationed in the Maldives.
The bill includes criminal punishments such as jail sentences and fines against individuals who act in a manner that damage diplomatic ties with other countries.
The opposition’s ‘India Out’ campaign claims that the Indian military being stationed in the Maldives is a threat to the nation’s freedom and security.
