The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has prohibited the sale of raw Pacific oysters produced at Australia’s Coffin Bay by Prestige Foods International.
The MFDA stated that they have been informed that there is a strong likelihood that the product is contaminated with vibrio parahaemolyticus, a gram-negative bacterium prevalent in the sea and estuaries that causes gastrointestinal disease in people when swallowed.
The authority also stated that they are now analysing the contamination’s danger level.
As a precautionary step, they have advised against the sale and usage of raw Pacific oysters until their assessment is complete.
