Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) recorded an all-time high for fish purchases in December 2021, the company said.
According to MIFCO, it was due to an unusually excellent fishing spell as well as the company’s employees’ hard effort.
According to the company, December was not only the month in which MIFCO purchased the most fish, but it was also the month in which the company paid the most to fishermen, totalling MVR 170 million.
MIFCO said that it purchased a total of 58,350.309 tonnes of fish last year and paid local fishermen MVR 901 million.
The company also stated that it is trying to implement the government’s strategy to grow the company’s resources, and that it is working with the Saudi Fund to boost storage capacity in Kooddoo.
Furthermore, MIFCO stated that it was aiming to improve storage in M. Muli and Gdh. Thinadhoo.
