Husen Amru, Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO), announced that the 2,500-ton refrigerated cargo ship purchased by MIFCO, a STO subsidiary, is now operational.
According to Amru, the ship, which has a larger storage capacity than the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex, will make it easier to buy seafood from local fisherman.
Furthermore, he stated that the refrigerated cargo ship, Jazeera Reefer, will lower the cost of fish exports and provide additional job prospects.
Jazeera Reefer has a length of 98 meters and a beam of 13.6 meters and was formerly operated by a Thai company.
MIFCO stated that the vessel, which fulfils European Union and Indian Ocean Tuna Commission regulations, was purchased for MVR 27.8 million.
