The Minimum Wage Advisory Board had recommended minimum wage based on five major areas.
Employees in private-sector small businesses will be paid MVR 24.04 per hour, or MVR 5,000 per month. Employees in the medium firm category will get MVR 33.65, or MVR 7,000 per month. Meanwhile, staff in major corporations will earn MVR 42.79 per hour, or MVR 8,900 per month.
Furthermore, the Board suggested a monthly minimum salary of MVR 7,000 for public sector employees working six hours per day, with individuals working less than six hours earning MVR 33.65 per hour.
It also proposed a 5-year moratorium on establishing a minimum wage for foreign workers in the Maldives. During this time, the Board said that additional research will be conducted.
