Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has participated in discussions to start more flights from Russia and Eastern Europe to the Maldives.
Minister Mausoom met with Resort Life Holidays, a Maldivian tour operator with a presence in Russia, and Red Wings Airlines of Russia on Friday. During the meeting, Resort Life Holidays and Red Wings Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) addressing the start of flying operations to the Maldives.
Dr. Mausoom also attended a meeting on Thursday between Resort Life Holidays and Nordwind Airlines. During the meeting, he discussed the prospects for airlines in the Maldives, particularly at Gan International Airport in Addu City. The meeting was also attended by Ibrahim Siyad Qasim, CEO of Villa Hotels Private Limited, and Murad Hassan, Business Development Director of Villa Hotels.
Minister Mausoom is currently in Russia at the invitation of Resort Life Holidays. During the visit, he paid a visit to Resort Life Holidays’ office and praised the company’s efforts to promote the Maldives as a tourism destination to the Russian market.
Russia is currently the top source market for Maldivian tourism. According to the most recent statistics, Russia accounts for 23.8% of all tourist arrivals in the Maldives this year.
