After a week of searching, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has discontinued its search for a four-year-old boy who was thrown overboard in a speedboat accident.
According to authorities, a total of 4,706 nautical miles had been searched by air and sea with no result in locating the missing child.
On October 16, the MNDF launched a search for a missing 4-year-old following a launch accident in which three passengers were swept overboard when a powerful wave struck the boat at Olhuveli Resort on the route from Male’ to Vaavu Atoll. The child’s mother was confirmed dead the same day, but the other passenger was rescued.
Authorities earlier asked the public’s assistance in their hunt for the missing four-year-old. Vessels travelling through the region and adjacent islands were advised to keep an eye out for evidence of the youngster. Anybody with information were recommended to phone 191, 3395981, or 3398898.
