Maldives National Party (MNP) has decided to forge an electoral alliance with the coalition of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People’s National Congress (PNC). This move comes as a strategic response to the evolving political landscape and future elections in the Maldives.
President of MNP, Mohamed Nazim, made the announcement during a meeting where he revealed that the party had inked an agreement to collaborate with the PPM/PNC coalition for the next five years. This comprehensive agreement includes a crucial provision for the three parties to jointly contest upcoming elections. As a result, a primary election process will be held prior to each election to nominate a unified candidate endorsed by all three parties.
Moreover, Nazim underscored the pivotal role played by the MNP in securing a decisive victory for Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the second round of the presidential election. He reaffirmed MNP’s unwavering commitment to extend full support to the Muizzu administration throughout its five-year term.
In the coming days, the MNP national council is set to receive a detailed breakdown of the agreement with the PPM/PNC coalition. Nazim stressed the party’s dedication to continue its efforts for the betterment of the nation, laying the groundwork for an intriguing political landscape in the Maldives.
