Morocco has established an honorary consulate in the Maldives.
The Honorary Consulate of Morocco in the Maldives was officially inaugurated on July 18. The Moroccan flag at the consulate was officially hoisted for the first time by Foreign Secretary of the Maldives Ahmed Latheef. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Morocco to the Maldives Mohamed Maliki and the Honorary Consul of Morocco in the Maldives Ahmed Nashid.
This is the first consulate to be established by Morocco in the Maldives since the two countries established diplomatic ties. The governments of the two countries believe this is an important step towards reinforcing the bilateral ties between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.
Morocco and the Maldives established diplomatic ties on February 4, 1988.
