North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam, Chair of the Committee on National Security Services, has requested that the official residence of the President of the Maldives be transferred from Mulee’aage to Theemuge, the Presidential Palace of the Maumoon government.
MP Aslam made the remark while presenting the investigation committee report on the revisions to the Judges Act to provide an official residence for the Chief Justice.
According to Aslam, the site with the vest security for the president will be supplied by the former Presidential Palace Theemuge. He emphasised that the state-funded mansion was built with security in mind.

Theemuge was erected as the President of Maldives’ official residence under the reign of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. However, in 2008, the Supreme Court and High Court were assigned to the structure.
Following the May bombing, President Solih resolved to reform the current legal framework to ensure the highest level of protection and safety for the heads of all branches of government, including an official residence.
