Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa’s domestic violence case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution, following the conclusion of the investigation by the Maldives Police Service.
Asra Naseem, his wife at the time, had accused him of domestic abuse and filed a police report. However, Asra later said that she wished to drop the case, but police stated that the case would proceed regardless of her wishes since MP Easa was charged with a criminal offense.
This comes after the Criminal Court denied an arrest warrant requested by the Maldives Police Service, stating that while there are reasons why he is accused of domestic violence, there is no lawful method to release an order for his arrest.
MP Easa has also resigned as chair of the Committee on Social Affairs after being accused of domestic violence.
After the allegation, MP Easa released a statement announcing his resignation from the committee and expressing his readiness to cooperate with the police and relevant authorities. He also denied any wrongdoings, claiming that he has not broken any laws or regulations in the country.
