MP for Ihavandhoo constituency Mohamed Shifau has been named as the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Affairs.
The seat of Committee chair was left vacant after Ahmed Easa, MP for Kendhikulhudhoo, resigned following a police complaint lodged by his ex-wife alleging domestic abuse.
MP Shifau was named Chair of the Committee at today’s meeting, which MP Easa also attended and voted on.
Following the allegation, MP Easa released a statement announcing his resignation from the committee and expressing his readiness to cooperate with the police and relevant authorities. He also denied any wrongdoings, claiming that he has not broken any laws or regulations in the country.
