MTCC has been awarded the second phase of the Maafaru International Airport at a cost of MVR 443 million.
MTCC Managing Director Adam Azim signed the agreement on behalf of the company at a ceremony held at the Planning Ministry. Director General Fatima Shana Farooq signed the agreement on behalf of the Planning Ministry.
According to the Planning Ministry. MVR 418 million for the project will be funded by Abu Dhabi Fund. The remaining 25 million will be spent from the State Budget.
The project, which is due to be completed within a year, will extend the runway by an additional 650 meters and widen the strip. It will be done by dredging more area. Under the second phase, MTCC will also undertake shore protection measures of the island.
The project also includes upgrading the pavement of the existing runway, widening the taxiway and upgrading the power system and AGL.
The USD60 million (MVR 925 million) Maafaru International Airport opened in December 2019. The project was financed by Abu Dhabi Fund.
