Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has employed 52 trainees who completed the Hunavaru Apprenticeship Programme.
The Hunavaru Apprenticeship Programme is a three-month programme, where trainees are provided an internship at different divisions and departments of the company. The programme was especially dedicated for the training of bus drivers, marine mechanics and site supervisors.
On June 27, MTCC awarded jobs to 52 trainees who successfully completed the Hunavaru programme. Trainees received their certificates from the CEO of MTCC Adam Azim.
Speaking at the awarding ceremony, CEO Azim said the programme is an important initiative of MTCC to train locals for a wide variety of jobs offered by the company. Azim noted that four female bus drivers have been trained under the programme and have acquired their bus licenses. He expressed hope the programme would enable a change of attitude towards gender roles in the employment market.
The Hunavaru Apprenticeship Programme is split into the Hunavaru Licensing Programme and the Hunavaru Technical Scholarship Programme. The participants of the programme receive a monthly allowance of MVR 5000 for the duration of the three-month programme. In addition, food and accommodation are arranged for participants who live on a different island from the island of the allocated work site.
