Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) CEO Adam Azim stated that K. Kudagiri island will be developed as a picnic island and open to the public over the next six to eight months.
During the agreement signing ceremony between MTCC and the planning ministry on Wednesday, Azim also stated that the groundwork will begin this month and that people will be able to visit Kudagiri within the next 6 to 8 months.
MTCC was awarded the project for MVR 41 million, with a completion schedule of 150 days. As part of the project, 8 hectares of land will be reclaimed for a picnic island, and 1.5 hectares will be reclaimed for a sandbank.
According to MTCC, the project will comprise the construction of a 397.27-meter breakwater and a 428.38-meter groyne.
Azim added that the project is a priority for the current government and emphasized that Kudagiri island is significantly larger than Kudabandos island, which is popular with capital city inhabitants as a picnic spot.
