Bus services provided by Maldives Transport and Contracting Business (MTCC) will be free for three groups of people starting in January, including elderly citizens, the company said today.
According to a statement released by MTCC, schoolchildren, those over 65, and individuals with disabilities would be able to use the company’s public bus services for free starting January 1 in Greater Male’ and atolls.
Currently, public bus services in the atolls are limited to Addu City school children commuting between Hithadhoo and Feydhoo. However, the company stated that it plans to expand its bus services to more islands in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and four Laamu Atoll islands (Gan, Fonadhoo, Isdhoo, and Kalaidhoo).
MTCC has previously provided free public ferry trips to anyone who fit into the same three categories, but from January 1, this would now cover the company’s public bus services.
The company stated it is devoted to offering inexpensive and convenient land and marine transport services to the public as the Maldives’ leading transport provider.
