There has been a shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, resulting in multiple injuries, according to local authorities.
The city’s fire department has confirmed that there are several patients from the incident and the area remains an active scene. The Nashville police have reported that they engaged with the shooter, who is now deceased.
The Covenant School is a private Christian school for children in pre-school through sixth grade, with approximately 200 students. The school reportedly implemented an active shooter program in 2022.
Tennessee’s House Democratic Caucus has issued a statement expressing their condolences and prayers for the children and families affected by the shooting. Nashville mayoral candidate, Freddie O’Connell, has acknowledged that the city has joined the communities that have experienced a school shooting.
According to Education Week, there have been 12 school shootings resulting in deaths or injuries in the US in 2023 up to March 23.
