Minister of Finance, Mr. Ibrahim Ameer today revealed that the current administration has spent nearly MVR 12 billion on several development projects within 2 years and this is a much higher amount compared to previous 5 years.
Speaking at the event held to sign the agreement to develop water and sewerage systems in 34 islands, Minister Ameer said that the current administration has 310 development projects ongoing in several islands across the nation.
Moreover, the project to develop water and sewerage systems in 34 islands is funded via the credit facility of USD 800 million provided by the Exim Bank of India. Water and sewerage system is set to be developed in 25 additional islands and the bidding process for these projects are now open, he added.
Minister Ameer also highlighted the state expenditure of more than MVR 3 billion on COVID-19 and how it has helped to keep the economy afloat during these difficult times.
Government has 133 water and sewerage system development projects currently on going. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also assured that all islands will have a water and sewerage system before the end of his term.
