Brother of Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and prominent lawyer, Nazim Abdul Sattar has pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct charges.

Nazim was charged under the Penal Code for his involvement in same-sex relations with Bangladeshi man MD Alamgir.

Nazim was seen in a video leaked on social media which showed the two men engaged in sexual acts. Following the leak of this video, Nazim had initially denied his involvement and claimed the video was fake.

Nazim’s plea comes after Bangladeshi national MD Alamgir pleaded guilty to the charges raised against him at the preliminary hearing and was sentenced to seven months and seven days in prison by the Criminal Court on August 31, 2022.

Former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel) and Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, a police officer working in the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) have also been charged for the same offense after their videos with MD Alamgir were leaked on social media.
