A new preschool, the first to be administered by the government in Greater Male’, called Mohamed Qasim Preschool, has opened in Hulhumale’ Phase 1.
Although certain Male’ schools include preschools, they are not overseen by the Ministry of Education. However, the Ministry of Education provides some teachers’ salaries, as well as students’ school fees and books.
But the new preschool in Hulhumale, which was sponsored by a private citizen and named after his late father, will be operated directly by the government.
Vice President Faisal Naseem formally opened the preschool this morning during a special ceremony. Minister of Education Aishath Ali also attended the ceremony.
There are ten classrooms, a hall, a music room, a computer room, a staff room, a principal’s room, and an office at the school.
At the time of its opening, Mohamed Qasim Preschool, which has a capacity of 750 kids, had 22 students, six teachers, two administrative personnel, and four support workers.
The Ministry of Education is still accepting admissions forms and transfer requests for the preschool. For the time being, transferred students will be permitted to wear the uniform of the school they were previously attending, according to the Ministry.
Mohamed Qasim Preschool is in Hulhumale’ Phase 1 next to the Autism Association.
