The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reversed its decision to halt night market due to rising COVID-19 cases and has now permitted to resume with stricter guidelines.

Male’ City Council last night announced the decision to halt the night market which has been continuing at Rasfannu area from December 26th after advice from HPA due to rising COVID-19 cases in the Greater Male’ area. However, starting tomorrow night, Night market will resume with social distance protocols in place to prevent the spread of possible COVID-19 cases.

Male’ City Council initially announced that the night market will continue for 10 days. However, it was prolonged for an additional two days with social distancing and safety measures ignored by many. HPA claimed that the night market was hosted against their advice. Despite the claims from HPA, no measures were taken to halt the event.

The Greater Male’ area is once again seeing a rapid surge in COVID-19 cases with more than 136 cases recorded alone in the area so far today.
