Maldives Police Service has stated that the nine arrests from Addu City were linked to extremism.
In a joint operation on May 15th, the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) arrested nine suspects in Addu City.
During a press conference today, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Basheer said the suspects were arrested in connection with extremism and that some of them had equipment for making weapons and explosives. He also mentioned that three of them are currently involved in a court case related to homemade weapons.
According to police, five locations were searched as part of ongoing anti-extremism operations, with some items confiscated but no weapons found.
Following the May 6th terror attack, police have carried out several operations across the country.
