Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has said that no cabinet ministers are being investigated over the leaked same-sex videos.
Maldives Police Service has been investigating the alleged leak and blackmail of same-sex videos involving multiple men, including some high-profile individuals, with a Bangladeshi man named MD Alamgir. Moreover, police have also denied that the number of people involved in the scandal is less than 50, contrary to 250 people reported by local media.
Local media outlet ‘Mihaaru’ quoted Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, stating that the alleged list of people involved in the scandal leaked on social media was posted by a fake account and that some of the names in the list are not individuals currently under investigation. Moreover, CP Hameed claimed that the list is fabricated and stated no cabinet ministers are being investigated in connection to the case.
Multiple passports have been withheld and at least 4 people arrested over the leak of same-sex videos in recent days.
