Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has said that only four requirements will be evaluated to be eligible for the land plots to be given out from Malé.
The requirements are;
- A born citizen of Malé
- Must not already own land bigger than 600 square feet or up for inheritance, and if not, give up the land to the government.
- Those registered under ‘dhaftharu’ can also apply
- Malé citizens who do not have a place to stay in Malé can also apply
Moreover, there are additional guidelines for allocating marks to the applicants. He stated that although marks would vary depending on age and marital status would not factor into the mix unless spouses are applying to co-own a land plot. A specific amount of marks would be given if the applicant has two or less children and having more children would grant more marks, Minister Aslam detailed.
More marks will also be awarded for applicants with disabilities, however, a guideline on how these marks will be allocated has not been finalised, according to Minister Aslam.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced during his Presidential Address that a total of 2,000 plots would be given to the people of Malé.
