Two members of the opposition have filed an emergency motion in parliament today calling for a ban on Israeli tourist arrivals until Israel stops attacking Palestinians.
On the first day of the second term of Parliament, Ahmed Shiyam, MP for Naifaru constituency, and Ahmed Saleem, MP for Eydhafushi constituency, filed an emergency motion to prohibit Israeli visitors from entering the country until Israel ceases its attacks on Palestinian civilians.
MP Shiyam filed an emergency motion, stating that the government must act rather than simply issue formal statements condemning Israeli actions.
In addition, he proposed banning Israeli visitors from entering Maldives until Israel ceases its attacks on Palestinian civilians, as well as prohibiting Israeli goods in Maldives.
All of the parliamentarians who spoke during the debate condemned Israel’s actions and assured that the Maldives would always support Palestine.
