The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued a safety alert due to an upsurge in flu cases in Greater Male’.
According to the HPA, 11,008 flu cases were registered in the first fourteen days of October. In October, 432 samples were tested for influenza, with 192 positives, increasing the overall number of influenza positive cases in 2021 to 365 out of 1,198 samples.
The HPA issued a warning, highlighting a rise in flu and common cold illnesses in the country, urging people to be careful and practise good hygiene to prevent the transmission of disease.
Since COVID-19, flu, and the common cold are respiratory illnesses, the HPA emphasised the significance of maintaining the same procedures employed to minimise COVID-19 transmission.
According to HPA data released last month, there were 11,348 cases of flu recorded in August, more than tripling the 3,838 reported in July.
The HPA also noted that the number of flu cases reported in 2021 has already outpaced the previous three years.
