With the current spike in reported flu cases in the Maldives continuing unabated, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that the number of reported flu cases reached over 30,000 in October.
According to data issued by the HPA in conjunction with the current surge in flu cases, the number of reported cases in October nearly tripled from September, with 18.777 cases recorded in September compared to 30,843 cases reported in October.
The number of recorded flu cases this year is higher than the previous three years, the HPA said.
Stomach flu is another viral ailment that is on the rise, but the number of recorded cases is not much greater than in the preceding three years.
According to the HPA, 1,408 cases of stomach flu were detected in September, with 1,717 cases reported in October.
The HPA also stated that the number of confirmed Dengue infections is quite low, with eight cases reported in September and 10 cases reported in October.
To minimise the spread of such viral infections, the agency recommended people to maintain good hygiene.
