The finance ministry has reported that around MVR 230 million was spent from the Green Fund in September.
According to the finance ministry’s most recent Green Fund Report, 40 projects were funded using the Green Fund in September, including initiatives to construct coastline protection, water supply, waste management, and sewage systems.
The data also showed that the amount spent on Green Fund projects in September increased by 91 percent over the amount spent in August, with MVR 40 million in August spent for 25 projects around the country.
According to the Green Fund report, the largest contribution from August was provided to the water drainage system in Thinadhoo, Gaaf Dhaal Atoll, with MVR 12.8 million spent on the project.
The Green Fund collected MVR 72 million in September, with the greatest contributions coming from Kaafu Atoll and Alif Dhaal Atoll.
The Green Fund was established in 2016, and it is a fund made up of Green Tax collected from tourists, with the goal of addressing environmental challenges in the Maldives.
