Parliament has approved the National Security Services Committee’s decision to initiate an investigation into the breach of Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s security, which resulted in the May 6 Terror Attack.

Following the attack, the National Security Services Committee assembled a report with six key recommendations, which was approved by Parliament with 42 votes on Monday.

According to the report, the National Security Services Committee has agreed to broaden the scope of the Parliament’s investigation into Nasheed’s security breach to the maximum extent permitted by law, and to enlist the help of both local and foreign experts.

The report also calls on police to prioritize investigations into extremism cases and to share all information about the terror attack with the committee.

Following the passage of the report, Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla declared that the Parliament would reconvene for a special session on Monday night to discuss the investigation.
