Former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has issued a stark warning to MPs that are complicit in the MMPRC scandal might lose their constituency.
During today’s parliament session, Nasheed directly requested for the latest information related to the investigation into the MMPRC scandal, on behalf of an initial request made by the West Henveiru Constituency MP Hassan Latheef.
MP Hassan Latheef requested information regarding the scandal from relevant authorities in a letter addressed to the Parliament Speaker on March 21. The request was sent because the government and state officials, including former and current ones, were believed to have been implicated in the scandal.
The Asset Recovery Commission formed by the President has previously stated that current and former MPs, senior state officials, and members of independent state institutions had received payments and bribes from the scandal.
Parliament Speaker Nasheed said that the public is impatient to find out the latest update regarding the investigation and it is the responsibility of the parliament to get the details. He hopes to get justice and hold anyone involved including the current MPs accountable.
