Public Safety and Foreign Relations Committee of the People’s Majlis starts assessing five individuals from the public who applied to the Police Board.
The recently confirmed Maldives Police Services Act rebuilt the Police Board development; the new amendments require the President to name two people with the counsel of the Minister supervising Police Service, three experts of any field, and two individuals from general society assessed and designated by the People’s Majlis.
During today’s sitting of the People’s Majlis, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed named five individuals from the public who applied.
The five candidates were:
Hamid Abdul Ghafoor
Ali Mohamed Manik
Zubair Ahmed Manik
Labeeg Mohamed Mahid
Candidate Hamid Abdul Ghafoor is a vocal individual from MDP, and previous South Henveiru MP. Candidate Labeeg Mohamed Mahid is also a member of ruling party MDP and a political deputy at the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology.
The commands of the Police Board incorporate assessing candidates for Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police, and giving guidance to relevant authorities.
