In today’s sitting, the parliament has voted to review sexual harassment case lodge against Former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed, who is currently living in self-exile.
Ali Waheed is facing seven charges related to attempted rape, sexual abuse, and harassment which was brought forward by Tourism Ministry employees. He fled the country this February after Criminal Court released his passport, for which the Prosecutor’s General office has submitted an ethics complaint with the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) against the judge.
The Parliamentary report by the Judiciary Committee was passed with 33 votes in today’s session, after the issue was brought forward to Parliament’s attention by four female MPs to see if any party was negligent or had committed any wrongdoings in the departure of Former Tourism Minister.
The committee report recommended the Parliament to oversee the any complaints regarding the issue and recommended a temporary travel permit instead of the release of the passport of individuals charged with serious criminal matters.
