The appointment of Aminath Shauna as Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology has been approved by Parliament with 57 votes.
While submitting the committee report on Minister Shauna to Parliament, Chairperson of the Government Oversight Committee and West-Maafannu MP Mohamed Falah stated that Shauna fits the requirements for a minister in the Constitution and has not done anything that is prohibited by the law. He further stated that Minister Shauna has been unanimously endorsed by the Committee.
Minister Shauna served as the President’s Office’s Policy Secretary from 2018 until her appointment as Environment Minister. She was in charge of overseeing the execution of all government programs, including the Climate Change Advisory Council and the Maldives’ objective of being a carbon neutral country.
The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology has been charged with carrying on the activities and responsibilities of the abolished Ministry of Communications, Science, and Technology. The employees were moved to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology.
