Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated passengers can purchase tickets for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) minibus service using cash or RTL app. MTCC has started charging passengers MVR 7 for the minibus service, however, won’t be able to change for cash exchanges.
Speaking at a press conference, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said passengers will be able to purchase QR tickets via the RTL travel application, which is available on the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. He said passengers will also be able to purchase paper tickets, but they will have to provide the exact amount, as the buses do not have the means to make changes, which he said is in accordance with best practices to ensure buses travel on schedule.
Additionally, Azim said the tickets will only be available for purchase inside the minibuses. and the company will soon be introducing means to purchase tickets using cash cards and launching an RTL travel card which can be used to pay for tickets as well, making it easier for frequent travellers.
Persons over 65 years of age and children under three will be able to ride the minibuses for free after they present their identification cards, while persons with disabilities will need to present a card from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). Students will also be able to use the service if they are wearing their school uniforms.
