The People’s Majlis Committee on Independent Institutions will be conducting a performance assessment of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) members to identify and dismiss failing members.
During a committee meeting on Tuesday, Hassan Ahmed, Majlis member for Inguraidhoo seat, argued for a performance audit by summoning individual members of the ACC, alleging delays in corruption investigations.
He requested a probe of the work done by the commission to recover cash lost to the state, cases referred to the Prosecutor General’s Office, and cases currently under investigation.
Hussain Shaheem, a Majlis member from South-Henveyru, backed the proposal and stressed that ACC members who are found underperforming by the Majlis committee should be dismissed.
“I recommend that we summon and question them separately, assess their performance, and, if the committee determines that they are underperforming, begin the process of removing them from their positions,” Shaheem said.
The proposal was eventually passed unanimously by all members of the Majlis committee who were present. Following this, Committee Chairperson Rozaina Adam determined that they will meet individually with all ACC members next week.
