The Prosecutor General’s Office has charged Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ahmed Easa with assault in connection with the domestic violence case lodged by his ex-wife.
Public Prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu, a PG Office media representative, stated on Thursday that MP Easa was charged with Section 120 of the Maldives Penal Code, which covers the offence of Assault. According to Shafeeu, the charges have already been filed with the Criminal Court.
Asra Naseem, his wife at the time, had accused him of domestic abuse and filed a police report. However, Asra later stated that she wished to drop the case, but the police stated that the case would proceed regardless of her wishes since MP Easa was charged with a criminal offense.
After the allegation, MP Easa released a statement announcing his resignation from the committee and expressing his readiness to cooperate with the police and relevant authorities. He also denied any wrongdoings, claiming that he has not broken any laws or regulations in the country.
